• General information about psyllium:

Psyllium is the common name for seeds of the Indian sand plantain, and have long been used in Indian medicine. In Europe, psyllium is particularly valued for its extremely high soluble fiber content which allows it to swell and hold water. Psyllium can bind several times its own weight in water, during which process the seeds form quantities of mucilage. Whole psyllium can swell to an 11 to 15% weight/volume ratio, meaning that 1g of seeds can absorb between 11g and 15g of water. The amount of soluble fiber contained in the psyllium husks is sharply higher, which means that they can absorb at least 40x their weight in water.
