The enchanting smell of ripe quinces can be perceived from afar and immediately whets the appetite for more. However, quinces are not suitable for raw consumption and must therefore first be prepared by boiling or candied.
Our golden-yellow quinces come from the untouched nature of the Baltic States, where they are also called the Lemon of the North.
In contrast to the southern European quinces, which grow on metre-high trees, the quinces in the north are found on bushes up to 1.50m high.
Accordingly, the fruits only reach a maximum diameter of 5-6cm.
They are harvested when fully ripe in September and October and then immediately candied to preserve their excellent aroma.
Quinces are naturally rich in vitamin C and contain about twice as much as citrus fruits.
So all around sweet, sour, delicious, and healthy.
