The African baobab tree (also African baobab of "bu hibab - fruit with many seeds) is one of the most famous trees in tropical Africa. The very short but thick trunk of the tree is particularly characteristic. The five to ten centimetres thick bark makes the African baobab particularly resistant, and so it remains almost unscathed even in small fires. Another special feature of the baobab is that it feeds on its own fruits during long periods of drought, allowing them to dry naturally. Only then they are ripe and can be harvested. This also makes the fruits unique. They are green and covered with fine hairs. Inside, numerous seeds are embedded in the white powdery pulp.

Minimum shelf life and application:
If stored in a dry place, our organic Baobab fruit powder will keep for at least 3 years.

Baobab powder can be used extensively in the kitchen thanks to its sweet-sour note. It is especially tasty in muesli, baked goods or other desserts. But even a simple glass of water becomes deliciously sweet and lemony with one or two tablespoons of water, without any additives.

A legend around the baobab tree says that a vain baobab tree pursued the plan to become the most beautiful tree on earth. When it realized that other trees were more beautiful, it put its head in the sand. This sought to explain why the crown of the tree with its numerous ramifications resembles a root system. Another legend says that the devil knew how to plant the tree with its crown in the earth so that the roots reach into the sky. Regardless of these legends, the Baobab tree is valued by man and animal alike. It can live for several thousand years and is considered in Africa to be a source of health and well-being. Animals feed on the leaves, fruits and flowers; humans produce food, textiles, medicines and other valuable products from the tree. Its sponge-like trunk fibres serve as a natural water reservoir. Elephants crack the bark of the baobab and use its natural water depot. In doing so, they partially hollow out the tree so that it can offer shelter even in storms and still continue to grow. It therefore deserves the name, tree of life.
Since 2008, the dried fruit pulp has also been approved in Europe as a novel food. In Europe, the dried fruit pulp is known as ready-to-eat Baobab powder. It provides numerous minerals and refines every dish with a sweet and sour note. The high nutrient density in Baobab powder makes it a real superfood. 100 g baobab contains about 40 g of fibre and less than 1 g of fat. Of the numerous vitamins, the high vitamin C content is particularly noteworthy. Important minerals are also present in the superfruit. Of these, potassium, magnesium and calcium are worth mentioning with the largest proportion. In addition, the fruit flesh is rich in antioxidants, which act as radical scavengers in our body and can thus reduce oxidative stress.
