  • General information about royal jelly:

Royal jelly, also known as royal jelly, is the food juice with which the bees raise their queen and feed her for the rest of her life. Royal jelly is only available to the queen throughout her life. Due to its composition (protein, vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates), it reaches 800 times its weight within 5 days and its life span is about 60 times longer than that of its conspecifics, which only receive royal jelly for the first three days of their lives.
But humans have also long recognized the value of this unique elixir. Both the Greeks and Romans were already familiar with royal jelly and various Native American tribes also appreciated it. But royal jelly is also popular in Chinese medicine.

You can find more information about bees and their products in our guide:

'Bee professions and bee products'

The taste of royal jelly is certainly new and unusual for most people at first. But that's no cause for alarm, because royal jelly tastes very strong and tart and spicy when it is particularly fresh.
But the more often you eat royal jelly, the more familiar this taste becomes, until it even grows on you and you could feel the power of the queen bee, for whom the royal jelly is produced almost exclusively by her workers.
In terms of taste, royal jelly goes very well with honey. Our acacia honey with strawberries, for example, creates a particularly exquisite taste experience.

What you should look out for before buying royal jelly:

Not all royal jelly is the same. Thanks to our beekeeping experience, we are able to source the highest quality royal jelly from our cooperating beekeepers and pass it on to you in the same unadulterated quality.
This means that you receive absolutely pure royal jelly from us without any additives. Unfortunately, it is now standard practice to add additives to royal jelly. Be it honey to change the taste or artificial vitamins to suggest a false added value.
Additives can also be used to extend the shelf life.
As royal jelly is a very sensitive product with a high liquid content, ascorbic acid is often used for this purpose.

However, as such additives are not desirable, expertise and specialist knowledge are absolutely essential in order to obtain royal jelly of outstanding quality. Compliance with the cold chain and high hygiene standards are particularly important here.

As part of our HACCP certification, an external inspection body continuously certifies that our own quality controls are always at the highest level. Companies often shy away from HACCP certification as it involves a great deal of effort to meet the requirements. You can find out exactly what HACCP certification is all about by clicking on the following link.

However, our quality control does not begin with storage and dispatch to the customer, but starts directly with our beekeepers.

Thanks to our long-standing relationships with our beekeepers, we are able to develop quality criteria together and ensure that these are adhered to. We therefore have an insight into every step of the production chain of our royal jelly and can ensure directly on site that both the beekeeping itself is carried out in a species-appropriate manner and that the food regulations are strictly adhered to.

An equally important criterion for humane beekeeping is the implementation of the EU Organic Regulation, which specifies exactly how beekeepers must keep their bees so that they can lead a good life and produce high-quality bee products.

Among other things, this includes the location of the beehives, which must not be located within a radius of 3 km from conventional agriculture, and also stipulates that the hives must be made exclusively from natural materials.

Furthermore, the bees must be able to provide for themselves, which is why supplementary feeding with sugar or other nutrients is prohibited. There must therefore be enough honey and pollen left in the hive to enable the bees to provide for themselves, as bees find all the nutrients they need in nectar and pollen in sufficient form.

Our organic inspection body ABCert has summarized the guidelines for organic beekeeping in the following link.
